Listing of Satellite BirthdAy Bash deviantMEETs!By now you've surely heard that deviantART is throwing a super-awesome-fun-party-time 10th BirthdAy Bash on August 7th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Amirite? Am I?! While we certainly hope you can attend our party for the ages (last year `margotdent was dancing on tables and that's when we were only turning 9!), we understand that deviantART is home to deviants from all around the globe -- which means, sadly, that not everyone can attend our birthday festivities. However, we encourage you to host or join a satellite BirthdAy Bash deviantMEET in your area. After all, the spirit of deviantART celebrating 10 years on the Internet is meant to be shared and we hope you'll be able to find a fellow deviant, or 40, to hang with on our special day. Below, we've compiled details from satellite BirthdAy Bash deviantMEETs that we've be
Join us at Comic-Con! We want to hang with you! HEY GANGSTERS!Members of the deviantART staff will be at San Diego Comic-Con 2010 on Thursday, July 22nd and Friday, July 23rd. A few of us will also be at the convention on Saturday and Sunday, but the majority of our crew will be attending on Thursday and Friday -- and we want to meet our fellow deviants! We'll be all over the convention -- representing deviantART to the fullest -- so in the event you spot someone wearing deviantWEAR, carrying a deviantART bag, or showing off a "Hi, my username is ______" button, be sure to stop them and say hello! You'll likely be rewarded with a bit of deviantART swag and dazzling conversation. We know Comic-Con is a huge convention and finding people can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. One of our favorite places to hangout is Artists' Alley (located in the main exhibit hall), so be sure to look for us there. mg
HQ on the Road! What up dA! This is my first post to HQ. Be gentle. Just an update on what’s happening here as far events, activities and general shenanigans go. We’ve collected a few videos along the way and there’s lots more to come during and after #SXSW.We’re working on ways to be more involved in events. We’d love to hear about big regional and country events that are important to you, no matter where you are. In the meantime, here’s what we’ve been up to… Art Basel/ Wynwood - Miami, FL In December `heatherwetzler and I made our way to sunny Miami for the much ballyhooed Art Basel but, frankly, we spent our time in the Wynwood district where it really popped off. Every alley led to a rogue warehouse showing. There was indie art everywhere and it was awesome. U-haul trucks would pull up on the side of the road, throw up their back ends and reveal mobile galleries. When the cop sir
Dr Pepper Mural Wrap-upBack in February, you may have seen our launch of The Pepperland Contest, where we asked artists to use Muro to draw their depiction of the ultimate fantasy world, a world where Dr Pepper flows freely and the inhabitants are always happily quenched. Time passed, the winning deviation was chosen, and ~ArtKat got a call that her Fuel Yourself had been named the winner. After what we imagine to be much squeeing, as part of her prize package, she hopped on a plane from Michigan to hang out with a whole slew of deviants and a handful of staff to view her winning deviation spray-painted as a mural on the side of a building in the middle of Los Angeles.A time-lapse film of the mural being created. Some people might have thought it strange to hold a
We're headed to Dragon*Con! Are you?! Dragon*Con is just around the corner!Dragon*Con -- the Atlanta, Georgia based convention that brings together pop culture lovers, sci-fi and fantasy enthusiasts, gamers, and artists -- is just a couple of weeks away. And we want to know if you're attending! We're going! Are you?DeviantART admins $techgnotic and $Heidi will be in attendance, checking out all that Dragon*Con has to offer. If you live in the Atlanta area and/or will be at Dragon*Con, we want to hear from you! Let us know in the comments of this blog. (We're especially interested in meeting deviants who consider themselves Dragon*Con veterans. We've never attended the convention before, so we'd be entirely appreciative of hanging out with a couple of experts who didn't mind showing us around.) What is Dragon*Con
Dr Pepper Photo Op in NYC Wrap-Up!Over the weekend, $Heidi, $danlev, and I headed from Los Angeles to New York City for the Dr Pepper Photo Op. ~reyjdesigns placed first in the How Do You Drink Dr Pepper? Contest and, as our winner, his work was recreated as a mural in Brooklyn. We flew him and his cousin from Florida to NYC to unveil the masterpiece and invited all deviants to come celebrate along the way!Our first day in New York was filled with interesting TSA agents, interviews at 39,000 feet, traffic jams, and delicious coffee from Dunkin' Donuts. We briefly scoped out the mural, to prepare for the upcoming photo op, and were thrilled to see people walking by and admiring the work!
Adios Miami! Until the next devMEET...Miami. Home to warm weather in winter, awesome street art, and the biggest art fair in the United States, Art Basel Miami Beach. Oh, and deviants! Lots and lots of amazing deviants. This past weekend people traveled from far and wide to attend the Art Basel Miami Beach contemporary art show, and $Heidi, `aunnyd, $shyree2, $codenamepanther, and $draweverywhere were no exception. With the incredible energy this vibrant art event brings, we thought what better time to host our first-ever Miami deviantMEET? Deviants from the greater Miami area came together (almost 150 in total!) to celebrate and support their fellow peers at the Multiversal Miami group art show in the downtown district of Wynwood. Ov
