CoolClimate: Art for a good cause!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 27, 2010, 12:57 PM
Hai guyz!

:earth: Who likes the environment?

Personally, I am a fan of nature.  I enjoy long walks on the beach and climbing trees in the forest.  I’d like to preserve our earth so future generations can experience that same freefalling sensation when you reach for a branch that wasn’t quite as sturdy as you first imagined.  Good times, friends.

 Art for a good cause.

As the world’s largest art based website, who better to host a climate art contest than deviantART?  That’s why the good folks at CoolClimate have chosen deviantART as the host for their 2010 CoolClimate Art Contest! :la:

:? How does it work?

:boing: First, head over to CoolClimate and join the group.

:boing: Next, submit a work of art to CoolClimate that explores our relationship with the climate. From clean energy jobs to pollution-free oceans – the subject choice is yours!  Any visual medium is accepted, from photography, to digital works, to traditionally created masterpieces.  All we ask is that it be a static image, and one that truly encompasses how you feel about the current state or future of the environment that we share.

Be sure to submit to the appropriate Gallery based on where you have established residency, either the U.S. or anywhere else International.  Yes! This contest is accepting international entries.

:boing: Once you’ve submitted your piece(s), check out the other works in the Gallery.  Your comments and favorites will be considered by our esteemed panel of judges!

:omg: Did you say esteemed judges?!

Why yes!  Check out this contest’s amazing panel of judges:
:bulletblue: Mel Chin (artist)
:bulletblue: Philippe Cousteau (ecologist)
:bulletblue: Agnes Gund (collector & philanthropist)
:bulletblue: Van Jones (environmental activist)
:bulletblue: David Ross (curator)
:bulletblue: Carrie Mae Weems (artist)
:bulletblue: Jackson Browne (musician) and Dianna Cohen (artist)
:bulletblue: Chevy Chase (Comedian) and Jayni Chase (philanthropist)

:eager: I’m so excited! But Ayame, what can art really do for the environment?

Historically, the creative community has always helped to create new and expanded visions of possibility during difficult times and we look forward to the artist’s vision for a cool and sustainable future.

:bulletpurple: More details plz!

Submissions are now open and will close on August 23, 2010 at 11:59:59 PM PT.  This contest is open to any deviant worldwide, and entrants must be 18 years or older to participate.  The age restriction is in place to avoid possible legal problems as this contest progresses, not because those under this age don't care about the environment or can do nothing to help.  If you are under the age of 18, you can still tell your friends about this contest and spread the word!

Check out all the official rules at the CoolClimate group page.

:bulletred: Shoutouts!

A huge thanks to makepictures, who has invested countless hours into the success of this project.  But we all know he’s doing it in hopes of meeting his idol, Jackson Browne, even though Browne isn’t as famous as the great Chevy Chase.  Am I right or am I right? ;)

Also, this contest would not have been possible without the support of the following foundations:

 SPONSORS

:bulletblue: Creative Visions Foundation -- dedicated to individuals who use the power of media and the arts to create positive change in the world.
:bulletblue: Crosscurrents Foundation
:bulletblue: Quixote Foundation

Yeah, pollution and stuff is bad, but man-made global warming/climate change is not real. It's all caused by the sun. The trends of global temperature and greenhouse gas emissions don't match, while the trends of global temperature and sunspots (and the resulting solar wind strength) do. I'm not getting involved in any competition which seems allied with the unscientific lie of man-made global warming.

aw, everyone's upset about the 18+ )no worries, I am too), but they lost me at 'any visual mediums'. hello, darlings? the writer's on here aren't getting a say either, 18 or not.

but it sounds awesome, too. environment-lovers from around the world, unite! and make art :) good luck.

The fact that this is only for artists 18 or older gives dA a bad image. dA should be more tolerant and should represent the artist in legal matters no matter what his/her age is. I'm sure people under 18 years old have some pretty good and interesting views/opinions about our climate and nature itself.

It isn't exactly dA's call here, more like CoolClimate's. dA is just hosting.

Ok - i must be hallucinating - or is there really a cool, interesting and good contest for everywhere on earth?

And great!

Tomorrow i will read the rules exactly ^^
- but thewre is only one way to protect earth - destroy mankind - and there are some proofs, the bikini-atoll, atomatic tests - no humans and the nature ignores the radioactivity but because there are no humans the ecosystem works perfectly, some really rare species are there!

And did i say I love that contestidea? :woohoo:

Don't care for the prices (are there some, havn't read?) won't mind if i won one, but just great contest!!!!

I'm about 15 years old..and..
Uh, according to my friends,

I'm supposed to be the closest thing related to a hippie.
A BIG hippie. How often do you see a 15 year old hippie?
And I'm in extreme love with Nature and Animals.
Plus the weather.

And I was going to enter this contest..

wow the 18 years or older thing seems to be an issue. it's probably there because of legal reasons :(

however, I'm not an artist in the works of pictures. But I support this all the way.
