Film Gets an Upgrade!

We have just rolled out two major updates to deviantART Film

The first is that the player now utilizes HTML5 which will allow you to view deviantART films on your mobile devices, assuming, of course, that they support HTML5

Please note that the HTML5 player will only work on newer browsers (Chrome & Safari) with IE9 and Firefox support coming later.  For those of you using older browsers, it will revert to a smoother version of our original flash player.

The second is that we now support full HD Video (720p & 1080p)

While viewing a film deviation,  you will be given the option of choosing a resolution through the drop down menu in between the player bar and the volume control seen here:




For those of you that are submitting to our Film & Animation gallery, you will notice that the process is slightly different.  Rather then generating thumbs during submission, you will be able to select frames to formulate a composite thumb using the edit deviation tools.  Once you click submit, you will arrive to the 'processing page' and once your film is converted you will be able to edit and select 5 frames to be used as your animated composite thumb from 25 automatically generated from your video.

We are currently in the process of converting all of the film content in our gallery and if your films are able to be converted to HD, they will be within the next four weeks.  However, if the original file cannot be converted, you can upload your higher resolution films to take advantage of the new HD offering.  Unfortunately, you will not be able to edit your current films original files as it interferes with the annotation system.
