The Groups platform is currently in a closed-beta phase. During the last couple of months, we've rolled out roughly 30 different groups to help us test features, hunt for bugs, and gain invaluable user feedback. During this time, all deviants (Premium Members and non-Premium Members alike) have been able to join and participate in the created groups. However, deviants were limited to joining only one group in an administrative role -- until now.
Starting today, deviants have the ability to join up to three groups in administrative roles. (Administrative roles refer to group user classes higher than Groupies or Watchers.)
Being limited to one group was simply too restricting. It quickly became clear that we had many 'super deviants' who were interested in joining multiple groups -- not only joining groups, but doing so at a decision making (aka administrative) levels. Deviants can still, and have always been able to, join an infinite number of groups as Groupies or Watchers.
If you're wondering why we continue to have a limit on how many groups you can join above the Groupie and Watcher level, there comes a point when you spread yourself too thin. Groups require work -- often highly fun and enjoyable work, but work nonetheless. Successful groups, the ones that will rise to the top, are going to be backed by members that put in time, effort, and thought.
Take it from someone who has Founder level access to three groups, you'll eventually end up with more to do than there are hours in the day. We don't want groups to become virtual ghost towns. We want administrative members to be committed to the progress of their groups; members who want to see their groups prosper and thrive. To help ensure such a mentality, we feel that three is correct limit for the number of groups deviants can join at the admin level.
Join me in proclaiming: Three, it's the new one! Get it? 3 is the new 1? Funnnny!
Go Dodgers!
