Listen Live to $spyed on the radio!

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 9, 2011, 7:05 PM
:music: Creative expression through music!

Before there was deviantART, Co-Founder and CEO Angelo Sotira, aka spyed, founded a music community called Dimension Music, or DMusic.  As music is one of many avenues of artistic expression, creating deviantART as an outlet for the visual arts seemed to follow suit.  However, music has always been near and dear to spyed's heart.

That's why when Southern California radio station KCRW asked spyed if he'd like to participate in their Guest DJ Project, he jumped on the opportunity.  KCRW's Guest DJ Project invites an array of cultural icons to share and discuss songs that have inspired them.  Actors, authors, chefs, athletes, directors, tech entrepreneurs and more share their musical passions, giving deep insight into both their lives and their creative process.

During his interview, Angelo chose songs meaningful to him, such as an exclusive freestyle flow from Eminem on Tim Westwood TV, an exclusive track that struck a nerve in him during one of the more challenging times of building deviantART, and Help I'm Alive (The Twelves remix) by Metric, a song in a genre he relies on often to get him get into a creative flow.

:megaphone: Want to know what other songs spyed picked?

There are two ways that you can hear his entire interview:

:bulletblue: For Southern California residents, you can tune in to Morning Becomes Eclectic with Jason Bentley Wednesday August 10th at 9:00 AM by checking out the schedule listed here.  To find your local frequency, see the listing here.  For Los Angeles and the surrounding counties, this program is broadcast through 89.9 FM.

:bulletblue: The interview is also posted on KCRW's website, for everyone's listening pleasure, and you can find it here.

:sing: In more music news...

In addition to this, deviantART is continuing its reach into the music world by becoming the title art sponsor for the Pacific Festival, held Saturday, August 13th at Oak Canyon Ranch in Orange County, CA.  This event features incredible talent from today's music industry, such as Snoop Dogg, Cut / Copy, Steve Aoki, and Calvin Harris.

And, as members of deviantART, you can attend for a discounted rate!  Use the coupon code deviantart for 10% off the price of admission by purchasing your tickets here.

If amazing music and discounted tickets aren't enough to attract you to this event, come support two of our own deviants, draweverywhere and neither-field, who will be performing at the Pacific-Festival!  draweverywhere will be doing a live art installment and don't miss neither-field representing deviantART with his signature motion graphics featured on the main stage.

After the event, check out the Pacific-Festival group and share your photos with the rest of the attendees!  Or, if you just love music, join Pacific-Festival and submit your music related deviations!

This... is actually really cool. Too bad they didn't just bring in actual musicians from dA into that venue in addition to those people though.

We're actually getting a few deviants out to the venue to provide some eye candy for the crowds. You can read more about it here!

It's a bit harder to know who musicians are on dA, since we don't focus on that, but we've got the festival covered from the visual art perspective!

In theory there is the project sticky in the music forum that would help greatly, but I do see your point. It would be a little harder to get that sort of thing in order. Think about that wishful thinking though: an entire concert of deviantArt.

I wonder if it was possible to upload music with the same system like with videos: a deviant asking for the special permission to upload audio tracks, will be checked by the admins or possibly music moderators and has to verify that he creates music and audio tracks himself to get this special permission.

wouldn't that be a possible method?
