Site Update: December 1, 2011

Thu Dec 1, 2011, 3:57 PM by spyed:iconspyed:

About a month ago we announced Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer -- not as a hot topic, but we soft-launched to the hq membership and to the more savvy deviants who follow along when we release things.

Development of both products has never stopped and will continue in an ongoing manner moving forward.

Below, I've outlined a change log that tracks recent Sta.sh progress and also identified Known Issues that we're aware of and actively working on.

Change Log

You now have the option to include/exclude your journal from the Journal Portal, and from your Journal Tab's new "Featured" section.

The Journal Portal in the footer of deviantART now pulls from the Journals category but excludes all "Personal" posts. This means, you must categorize your Journal on submission for it to even qualify to appear in the footer of dA. This has substantially increased the quality of posts that appear there.

We were having some issues editing old articles within Groups, and those bugs have been fixed.

Sta.sh Writer now has an improved Preview mode from the old Journal writing system so you can see your post, CSS, avatars, images, etc. exactly as they're going to appear once published.

Various user interface changes are now live and have improved the quality of Sta.sh substantially. Clicking files in Sta.sh shows you the files - it no longer forces the Edit & Submit mode.

Countless bug fixes should have Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer functioning quite smoothly. We have all greatly benefitted from the excellent feedback that is making this product much stronger by the day!

Known Issues:

We have been developing very exciting functionality for Sta.sh Writer that will permit you to Write and then publish to anywhere you have access to post. This means you can Write an entry and publish to your Journal on your profile, and to a Group at the same time. Or optionally you can publish to all of the Groups you're a deviant of and have access to. This should solve many redundancies in the deviantART system these days where one must copy and paste in many locations in order to get the word out.

Sta.sh's file organization interface makes it tedious to access certain functions, such as Delete. A new interface has been designed that simplifies all core actions, and will be made live soon.

Sta.sh Writer currently defaults to open the most recently edited Draft. We've decided to always open a brand new file, and create a "File" menu at the top consisting of: New, Open Draft (with Quick Draft Links), Save, Save & Exit

Sta.sh Writer currently cannot access Group Skins (only the skins installed individually by deviants). We will soon provide functionality giving you the ability to use any skin you'd otherwise have access to anywhere you want. Our reasoning is, if you have access to the skin you could easily cut and paste it anyway so we may as well make this easier to address the needs here.

Group Journals are considered "Personal" -- they will likely be re-categorized in the tree and separated from Personal.

Old systems like the original editor for Journals, and the original editor for Group Journals (formerly Blogs) don't permit you to submit a Journal to a category within the Journal Portal. Because of this, all Group Journals are currently excluded from the footer of deviantART where they would otherwise gain a lot more exposure. This will be fixed shortly.

Thank you!

Community feedback is essential for successful product releases.  Please feel free to leave comments, questions, and suggestions in this journal.  Our Product team will be actively reading and reviewing all feedback in an effort to deliver Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer in forms best suited to the deviantART community.

I'm not sure if this is due to the recent updates or not, but I submitted a deviation through Sta.sh, and then later made a minor edit to it (just to post it in one of my groups which I moderate, in the option Publish To: Your Main Groups) and now I can't seem to see it on the 'Recent Deviations' widget on my page. It was featured there before I edited it. I'm wondering why that is and if there is a way to fix it?

Besides that, I love Sta.sh so far, it's very handy and makes submitting quite easier, and the improvements you've made to it. It's nice to know you're dealing with the glitches and accepting feedback.

I'm wondering how you feel about a 'queue' option in Sta.sh, where any deviant can set a future date for when they want to submit their deviation, and DA automatically submits it in that date, instead of deviants having to do it manually?

I still have some drawings loading issues even though it seems to be working on my different account ~alittleofsomething
I mean the problem with loading and uploading more than one file at once in Sta.sh
When can I expect it to be worked out?

OK I checked it and it seems to be that big files are uploading very slow... It would be nice if that would be fixed C: Thank you very much

not sure if this is the place to put it... but i can't seem to change my settings... the stash default submits to stacks but i can't change that...
my friend who uses the flat view says that he can't change to stacks either...
other than that, i love it :D i use it more than the regular uploading method now haha

I can't remember if I bitched about this already, but the amount of clicks to edit something in stashwriter is ridiculouuuuuuus. I'd like "edit & submit" to take me straight to the editing-the-actual-words screen, or at least add another option for it.

It would be wonderful if Sta.sh could upload art files faster so that I wouldn't have to refresh every time
Oh and when I want to upload multiply files I can do it only one by one
Could this be fixed?

I don't know if someone has already noticed this with their Sta.sh literature , but I cannot view literature that I have submitted using Sta.sh from my phone . When I try to look
it only shows me the description .

I'm not sure if this issue has been brought up, but Sta.sh won't allow me to upload some of my literature pieces because it says the file is too big. I'm able to submit the work throuh the old "Submit Art" way, so I'm assuming there's a limit to how big a literature piece can be to submit through Sta.sh?

I'm having problems with sta.sh: When I upload a deviation with a transparent background, sta.sh gives it a grey background. Why is that? I have to change my files constantly because of it. . .

Creating custom skins in stash is currently a terrible process--I'm essentially having to save the whole thing before I can see my final changes. It wasn't great in the old journal system either. What I'd really appreciate is a way for the preview to automatically refresh in the background and also have it display everything. Stash doesn't display thumbnails and regular journal editor doesn't have all the new features.

I appear to be having issues submitting using sta.sh..
Not sure if I should post this here or what, but it seems to 'auto-save' after I've added a title, and then it will not let me submit without refreshing the page (and then losing the description, keywods, etc.) .. just thought I'd let you guys know.

There's a bug where, when viewing the main page of your stash and you've already uploaded something, you can't copy the link to the page of the thing you uploaded using the little field below the deviation's thumbnail, because once you trigger the right-click window to try to copy the link, and move the cursor onto the right-click menu to choose Copy, the deviation is no longer selected. The only way to actually cut/copy the link from that dialog box is to keep the mouse cursor on the URL and pressing Ctrl+X or Ctrl+C. Since I have trouble rememebering what keyboard shortcut is for Copy, trying to copy the link is a needless hassle.

Also, I use Windows 7 and Mozilla Firefox, if that helps any.

I love it.
Just one suggestion: could there please be a clearer way to toggle journals between featured and other? I can only find my latest journals if I click browse on my journal page.

So if you put stuff in Sta.sh, can others see it? Or do you have to publish the stuff first? :)

Thank-you for your hard work. ^^

Only issue I've noticed (that isn't listed in the post) is that after the update, Safari (the browser) no longer works with sta.sh. I can upload images onto sta.sh but once they're uploaded I can't do anything with them.

Again, thanks for the hard work. This is a major project so bugs are expected. ^^

Another complaint, I'm afraid.

I'm trying to put a text together and add illustrations. I want the whole thing to be a unit, to be viewed together. Problem is that the Sta.sh writer only lets me add deviations to the text, not stuff I've got in my stash. So I'd have to upload the pictures into my gallery first - but I don't want anyone to see them until the final thing.

The dA mint green is another thing I'm grumbling about - my illustrations have a white background, and I want them to seamlessly fit into the page, not as square white boxes. This is a tad annoying.

no no... I was saying when you have a stack.. to a have a link to that stack.. so you dont have to link individual batch images.

also.. it would be nice if you could add to stacks after they are made via multiple image drag and drop uploads.
