In the last couple of weeks, we've been rolling out changes to the journal system, and with the introduction of the Journal Portal, your journals now have the potential to be showcased in the Footer of deviantART or in the Popular section of the Portal –- something that could draw tons more eyes to your work!
So, how do you make a journal that’s worth sharing? Even if reaching a wider audience isn't your goal, these tips will help you get better feedback and spark more conversation, which is one of the best things about our vibrant community.

Site Update: December 1, 2011About a month ago we announced Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer -- not as a hot topic, but we soft-launched to the #hq membership and to the more savvy deviants who follow along when we release things.  
Development of both products has never stopped and will continue in an ongoing manner moving forward.
Below, I've outlined a change log that tracks recent Sta.sh progress and also identified Known Issues that we're aware of and actively working on.
Change Log
You now have the option to include/exclude your journal from the Journal Portal, and from your Journal Tab's new "Featured" section.
The Journal Portal in the footer of deviantART now pulls from the Journals category but excludes all "Personal" posts. This means, you must categorize your Journal on submission for it to even qualify to appear in the footer of dA. This has substantially increased the quality of posts that appear there.

to design a t-shirt?  A LOT of great t-shirt designs submitted by artists
from all around the globe!  There were thousands of fantastic entries to
the dA Logo T-Shirt Design Challenge and tens of thousands of votes on those
entries.  Today we are pleased to announce the 50 semi-finalists, from
which the three winning designs will be chosen.  Each of the three winning
designers will receive $1,500 CASH, 25 tees with their design and their t-shirt
featured for sale in the deviantWEAR Shop!
These entries are the top 50 most voted-for qualifying entries.  Some top voted
entries have been disqualified because they did not adhere to the rules or

For me, Steve Jobs is an icon. The John Lennon of our time. And while his wife and children, as well as Apple and Pixar, are the landmarks of his life, Steve Jobs encapsulates the core values that have inspired a generation, separate from the images put forth by his companies.

Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... ~scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. New deviantART ThumbnailsIn the weekly Site Updates, we've been telling you all about the changes that have been launched to deviantART, getting your feedback, and reporting all the bugs that have been fixed.
This change is a little different, since it involves a feature that has been in place for a long time. We think it deserves an announcement of its own, ahead of time.
The current deviantART thumbnails (the smaller versions of deviations)  have served the community well for years; however, there's always room for improvement.
Some of the problems with existing thumbnails are: they leave a lot of blank space around them, there isn't a lot of room for text for literature deviations, and the thumbnails don't present very tall/wide images well.
The New Thumbnails
Now, we've created a new style of thumbnail, which hopes to solve a lot of these problems.

The poll I posted months ago said you guys wanted a Qilin universe contest, so here it is! :'D FINALLY!
This contests' theme is the Four Seasons, meaning that you will have to draw one (or more!) of the three main characters in a seasonal setting of some sort. This can be a holiday theme, or simply weather or clothing design appropriate to the season you pick.
All you have to do is draw and upload your picture to your gallery. Any medium is welcome. Once it's up, send me a note with a link or thumbnail to your image.
I will then add it to a folder called 'Four Seasons Contest' in my favourites, where all entries will be.
That way you can keep track, even if I don't reply to your note directly. C:
The deadline is February 2nd 2012, I will judge the entries and announce the winners within the following week.
