Velocity Filter: countering Favorites abuse!

Everyone loves a good (Favorite) now and again!  Favoriting a deviation is an excellent way to show your appreciation for a piece of art that moves you in some way.

However, we've recently seen this feature be used outside of its intended purpose.  In the past, we've allowed deviants to as they pleased -- with no limits placed on how often someone could different deviations.  Though, when we noticed that certain deviants were abusing the system, in such a manner that was both harmful to the community and to site security, we needed to step in and take action.  Such incidents occurred just a couple of weeks ago, and thanks to the efforts of our marvelous dt team, we have since introduced a new system to keep ing at reasonable levels.

  Gather 'round! It's short story time!

It just so happened that one deviant created a script to at a rate no human could sustain, causing issues within our servers.  In researching the problem, we soon found that a number of deviants were partaking in similar activities.  To amend this, our dt team created a new velocity filter on ing -- similar to the spam filter in place for commenting.  This blocks deviants who want to overly abuse the system, while still allowing others -- even those who really love ing -- to continue their normal activities.  Thus, maintaining a healthy balance in our internal systems.

The velocity filter is meant to block users who abuse Favorites purely for drawing attention to themselves, while providing no additional value added to the community.
